2011 CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to all the players for an excellent season. Only one word can sum up championship day.... WOW!
We knew the Bandits were going to come out hard and fast, but we have to give them credit, they stuck with it right to the end, but the Desperados were able to hang on for a 31-24 win to move on to the Championship game.
So there we were, ready for the biggest game of the year, what the boys had worked so hard for. With a new defensive strategy, the Desperados were too much for the Marauders to handle and after a 28-0 lead at half time, the Desperados cruised to a 35-6 victory and claimed the 2011 Atom division championship.
Thank you all for such a great season. I hope everyone has a great summer, and I will see you all at the field!
Coach Mike

DESPS HANG ON FOR WIN

You must give credit where credit is due, and it must go to the Bandits who showed a lot of courage and determination fighting back to within 6 points after being down 20-0 at the half.
For the 3rd time this season, Dominic started the game with a huge kick-off return to give the Desperados the early lead, and with the extra point, the Desps took a 7-0 lead. After recovering a fumble on the Bandits first offensive series, Deaglen ran through almost the whole team to score a touchdown but missed the extra point to take a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. Dominic ran in a long touchdown for his second of the game late in the half and added an extra point to take a commanding 20-0 lead going into the half.
The second half would be a different story as the Bandits came out flying and the Desperados looked a little to comfortable on defence. Some personal foul penalties wouldn't help either as the Bandits fought right down to the Desperados 30 yard line before time expired.

ANOTHER TIE VS MARAUDERS

It was a carbon copy of the first meeting between these two teams. The Marauders led 13-6 at half time, but the Desperados came back in the second half to tie the game and shut down the Marauders offence. Once again the Desperados were marching down the field when time expired and the game ended 13-13.

DESPERADOS BLOW-OUT BANDITS

Coming off of a tough tie vs the Mauraders, the Desperados came out flying against the Bandits scoring on the opening kick-off and never looked back. Deaglen and Dominic both scored two touchdowns, but the story of the game was the exceptional play of the entire team, from the largest to the smallest, everyone pitched in for the big win. Practice will take place Wednesday evening at the Fairgrounds at 6:30pm. A lot of the practice will be working on play calling and knowing positions as there is still some confusion. Also, we have been given the green light to return to the Westside fields starting next Monday, so the game on June 13th will take place there.

Way to go boys, keep up the hard work,
Coach Mike

DESPERADOS FIGHT BACK FOR A TIE

It may have been an opening game hangover, but the Desperados came out flat in the opening half of their game Wednesday night vs the Mauraders. But even with the slow start, they only found themselves down 7-6 at half time, thanks to a late goal line stand and an interception by Dominic at the 1 yard line on the last play of the half. The second half did not start any better with the Mauraders stripping a Desperado receiver of the ball and returning it for a touchdown to take the lead 13-6. The Desp's had to quickly re-group and settle down or the game was going to get away from them. With time ticking down in the 3rd quarter, Deaglen ran the ball down the left side of the field for his second touchdown of the game to bring the Desperados within one. The extra point was successful and the game was tied. It was now up to the defence to stop the big and fast Mauraders. After giving up a first down, the Desps made a stand and set the Mauraders back with two huge sacks forcing them to turn the ball over on downs. The Desperados were making a drive getting down to the 25 yard line when time expired and the game ending in a 13-13 tie.
Next game is Monday June 6th vs the Bandits.

GREAT START TO SEASON

After coming off a 12-6 win over the Bandits in the opening game of the season, the Renegades were looking to go 2-0 when they met the Desperados Monday night at the Fairgrounds. Dominic started the game with a kick- off return for a touchdown to put the Desperados up 6-0 with an unsuccessful extra point attempt. The Renegades marched back down the field on their first possession to tie the game 6-6 and took the lead with the extra point, but that would be it for the Renegades as Deaglen would score two touchdowns and the Desperados would add an extra point to take a 19-7 lead and go on to hand the Renegades their first loss of the season.
The Desperados next game is Wednesday night vs the Mauraders. Game time is 6:45 at the Fairgrounds.
